INTERLUDE: Tea for Two and DRIVING in Wales!

On Monday after all our castle adventures, we got back to Betws-y-Coed and ordered an official "tea for two" for our dinner.

Let me just say, it was HUGE. Just look at the layers!

Cream tea, pie, cakes, egg salad sandwiches (yes, with cucumbers in them), cookies... it was endless.

And way too much for us.

We bloated ourselves up anyway, though, and boxed up the rest. (Which was interesting, because clearly the server was surprised we wanted a box. She had to ask where they were and go hunting.)

Back at the B&B, the power was still out. This distressed me because I was supposed to be posting my fiction for [info]merry_fates, which I'd been organized enough to write weeks earlier before we left Kansas. Maggie and Brenna had a copy in case I couldn't, but it was frustrating none the less!

However, Gwawr brought us a bottle of red wine to make up for the inconvenience and let us know they'd told her the power would be back by 9. So Natalie and I settled in and took turns taking long, hot baths by torchlight. With wine.

It was kind of awesome. :D

And the power did eventually come back on so I got my story posted.

Here's our B&B!

So I've talked a lot about the driving. How the roads were narrow and it rained all the time. But I haven't mentioned so often the mountains we were staying in the middle of. Every time we wanted to go somewhere, we had to drive through them. The Snowdonia mountains.

I got a little carried away with the pictures. I couldn't stop taking them! But it was so dramatic and lovely (and scary).

Without further ado, here is the picspam!

LOOK! SHEEP IN THE ROAD! We really had to stop for them.

And here's another day, when it was totally foggy and raining.

For all we knew, we were about to drive off into nothing.

It was cold, and very windy.

This is in a valley, but check how low the clouds are.

Lake and more low clouds!

The sun reappears! I like the lighting here.

But THIS is my favorite of all the pictures I took on the road:

Oh, wow! That's so beautiful. All of it. The countryside, the B&B, the tea. Too much beauty.

It was really impressive! :D

I really miss that little B&B. *sigh* And I am still stupidly enamored of those silver tea pots!

The tea pots were amazing. *sigh*

You can send doggie bags to P.O. Box.....

Haha! Except they didn't really HAVE doggie bags. Most places were kind of scandalized that we wanted to take things home.

Perhaps they're used to employees getting the leftovers? Or do they just throw them away? Wasting anything on that tray would be a crime, IMO.

No clue. It was odd.

Mmm, tea for two looks so tasty! And I love how the bathtub has a built-in seat. That looks like a cute little place. :D

Guh...love the pictures. SO pretty...I can't wait to go there.

It was fabulous. I can't recommend the B&B enough. Gwawr was super nice, her food was amazing, and the place was clean and adorable and sitting right on the side of the mountain.

I love the mountains. Makes me feel a bit homesick for New Zealand. Looks cold!

It was a little chilly, but mostly damp.

I'm hoping to get to New Zealand in two years for the Rugby World Cup! :D

I MUST remember "tea for two". They better serve it in Scotland. Then my stomach will explode in sugary delight. It's kind of nice to see sheep in the road. Much better than cows, imo. ;)

I bet you can find tea for two in Scotland. Might be a little different, but probably still delicious!

Where are you going in Scotland? I lived on the north east English border for a year, and have lots of recommendations!

I'm going to Edinburgh for a wedding. I think I'll be there for 3 days. Then I'm going to Ireland to track down rellies. I'd love to have more time (esp trekking along Hadrian's wall), but that'll have to be next trip!

Oooo have fun! I <3 Edinburgh. The castle is grand!
